On this episode of LatinEQUIS, I speak with Niki López, Creator and Co-Executive producer of Santiago of the Seas, Nickelodeon's brand new animated series which premiered on October 9.

The show is infused with Spanish-language and Latino-Caribbean culture, and the 20-episode series follows Santiago Montes, a brave and kind-hearted pirate, as he embarks on daring rescues, searches for treasures and keeps the high seas safe in a fantastical Caribbean world.

Niki and I talk about Santiago of the Seas, her journey to animation and creation, children's education and the importance of diverse representation in the media.
